Hello,

I am trying to upgrade AIX 5.2 ML 2 to ML 4. I have many servers that need to be updated. I have the 5 ML CDs provided by IBM. I have successfully completed one server. The problem/question: Is there a way for me to do network installs of this ML? Can I just put all 5 CDs in one directory, do NFS mount, and do smitty update_all?

Thanks in Advance

Yes, you can.

And if you're using NIM, there is a way to do it also.

yes you can install MLs via NFS....

To copy CDs one by one to disk follow the "smitty install" menu... look for something like "copy installation media to disk for further use..."

BTW. you don't need to update from 2 to 3 and then from 3 to 4. when you have ML4 CDs then updating AIX 5.2 ML2 perform update ML04 "skipping" ML03....

You'll probably want to make sure a .toc is in place, because the nfs connected server may not be able to write to the export server. I guess you could make the export writeable. Your Choice.

Thanks. Here is the way I am doing it.
1) create a filesystem of 3-4 Gigs
2) smitty bffcreate, select cd0, and select the target fs directory you created in step 1
3) cd /newfilesystem; inutoc .

Thanks for the quick replies!
