I have a subnet that previously was on the disabled list in network discovery. Of course the machines were found but not assigned as clients. I enabled the subnet 2 months ago, but the machines are still not showing up as clients. Do I have to completely remove SMS from their machines and re-install the client?

Did you happen to reboot the machines on that subnet? Or what kind of discovery are you doing. I would schedule a network discovery..maybe that will help. (Also, in the SMS MMC, I would right click and Update collection membership.)
