The upgraded to office XP appears to loset some functionallity which has not been resolved with the 2007 version.

Previously I have been able to update records in a linked excel table with a simple query update, however Access XP does not seem to allow this, returning the error "cannot update'(expression)'; field not updateable,"

How do I get round this, I have a number of large & complex spreadsheets that are updated this way because the spreadsheets rely on data existing in a constant location, thus an "import Data" function does not work.

Is it simply a reference library issue

Until recently we had several pc's running old access versions (to cope with the problem) suddenly they seem to be failing so I need to understand what causes the error and how to get round it.

Thanks

Due to some licensing issue, Microsoft no longer supports the updating of linked spreadsheets.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Thanks for the info, I had heard this before and that was why we were running older versions.

However, up until three weeks ago we were running three older versions of access as follows;
v 2002 (10.2627.8639) SP3
v 2003 (11.6566.1832) SP2
V 2002 (10.2627.2625)

The first two versions now don't work (whereas they did 3 weeks ago) but the last version does.

Any idea what may have casued the change? we are pretty sure the programs haven't been upgraded

Thanks
