Updated RedHat Linux with Apache - Intranet didn't appear normally.

After applying updates to our RedHat Enterprise Linux Server 4 which hosts our intranet on WebSphere 6.1 running on Apache – we couldn’t navigate to our site using the normal URL - hostname.companyname.com. We could navigate to IP_addressort to access our intranet, but all of the links within the application were still broken (all of them use hostname.companyname.com/application_name). We reverted back to the snapshot taken prior to the updates and were up and running again. The httpd.conf file was identical before/after the updates. What other files should I look for that would affect how we navigate to our application?

If apache is answering http requests on the iport address, then it may be an issue at the system level. I would suspect the hostname got changed somehow.

It turns out that one of the Red Hat updates was for the native httpd. This overwrote our modified /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd file.

I changed the httpd file to start IBM's HTTP server (/opt/IBMIHS/bin/apachectl start) instead of Red Hat's. Everything worked after restarting the server.

Also, IHS will always display an IBM splash page, a normal Apache install will say "It works!" or something like that.
