I am trying to run a report where each record would have a field to store the page number of the report. My goal is to be able to provide an index or cross reference for each record in the report.
Hi. A page number for a report is generated when a report is printed, and a record could be on a different page each time you run the report. Are you saying that you want to enter in page numbers into the table, and have each record print on the page specified in the table? Or do you want to run a report, somehow glean the page number, and save that page number into the table? Could you please give more explanation of what you're trying to accomplish? The issue is that if you run a report one time, a record could be on Page 3. The next time you run it, depending on how many records you have and how much space each record takes up, it could be on Page 6. Not quite sure what you're looking for...

Thanks for your question. I would like to use your second option where when the report is printed it would store the page number in a table. If the first option would be easier I can adjust to that. I realize that records could change pages and would like to overwrite the field each time the report prints. I would not be using this very often but it is for a document that would go through periodic revisions so the previous page number is not worth saving.
Sorry but I don't know of a way to do this, and have never really seen anyone ask for it before. If it helps, to get a page number of a report, you can use [PAGE]. But I really don't know how to figure out which records are printing on to which page, so I don't know how you'd know which records to update. A report is really just a graphical representation so there's no real tie between a record and which page it's printed on. You can have many different report formats and the same record could print on a diff page for each one of them.
