Hi!

Can you tell me how to determine if I _will_ need to reboot after installing a specific updtate package? Well, I know, installp reports the need of reboot on the end of installation process. But, how do I know it before the actual installation?

Especially I will need to install GPFS 2.3 updates and I should be able to tell if they will shutdown the cluster, node or not.

Mayba I am lame, but I did not find such info in the INFO section of the packages.

if you use smit, you can run the update command without actually doing it... a 'preview only'. the installp will likely have an option for this, but i've never gone this way, just used smit.

No luck. Installp preview does not show this information. I think the trick is: it will want to reboot if the bosboot command is run during the installation. But I am not pretty sure.

yeah, you're right. never noticed that before.

can SUMA do this function? anyone know?

trifo,

Use the list (-l) parameter with installp, and a 'B' or 'b' in the 'Q' column means bosboot is needed, which means a reboot will be needed as well. If it's a capital 'B', the system also needs to be quiesced.

In the sample below, the bos.perf.perfstat package will require a reboot.
