I'm looking for a suggestion for a simple way to accomplish this task.

1. I have several websites with similar information.

2. I would like to make one website as a sort of directory and list the basic info for each of those websites.

3. Ideally, I would like to update the info on the directory website for each company, and have a way to embed functions on the independent sites that could read the diretory and update itself with the new info.

thanks for any help.

Are the sites hosted on the same server?

Do you have access to/the ability to do backend scripting with ASP, PHP or ColdFusion etc?

Do you have the ability to set up databases?

If so, then you could set up a central database and have each site pull the information it needs from that using a server side language.

Depending on the type of information and how exactly it incorporates into your site, you may also be able to use flat text files or Server Side Includes.

There is also the option of getting the "child" sites to pull the text from the "parent" site and then use a server side language to extract content. But this to me seems more complex than it needs to be. There was a recent (last few days) post on this (but I can't find it at the moment - its either in this forum, the XHTML forum or the PHP forum)

Do you think RSS is a realistic option? Make a the central site a RSS feeder and the remote sites RSS readers?
