I have upgraded to office XP and have lost some functionallity.

Previously I have been able to update records in a linked excel table with a simple query update, however Access XP does not seem to allow this, returning the error "cannot update'(expression)'; field not updateable,"

How do I get round this, I have a number of large & complex spreadsheets that are updated this way because the spreadsheets rely on data existing in a constant location, thus an "import Data" function does not work.

Thanks

I think you are SOL. MS had "borrowed" this functionality from some developer in S. America (I think). They were sued by the developer and were forced to remove the ability to edit linked records from Excel.

Your options might be to import the data and then push it back to Excel or use automation.
