I just bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 1150 and it's been working great. For some reason, there's that yellow download update sign on the right lower toolbar which stays forever without disappearing. Nothing happens when I double- or right-click on it. It only says "updates download 93%" when mouse is positioned over it without clicking. And it doesn't change ever since it appeared.
Restarting hasn't solved the problem. I went to Windows Update and started downloading whatever Windows recommended, however, those downloads are preparing forever without any single sign of actual download. Do I have some kind of problem downloading updates?
Thanks.

How are your Automatic Updates configured on your PC?
Twice I've seen a problem when attempting to run an update:
I had a problem with SP2 that was installing and we had a power cut. It seemed to remain resident in memory, and I was unable to re-install it. I eventually did the System Restore bit which resolved it for me.
Second time was downloading updates over a modem connection and the connection to ISP timed out and I could not get it to resume. Because half the updates were already there, XP knew what it wanted to do, but not how to do it...System Restore fixed that.
If you can remember when you first spotted the problem, restore your system to the day before and re-try the updates.
Hope this helps.
