Hi everybody,

I have 2 sites :
-Primary site (PR) with 1 VTL and 1 networker server.
-disaster recovery site (DR) with 1 VTL, 1 networker server and 1 physical jukebox.

PR VTL are replicated to DR VTL with a 1Gb ethernet link.
DR networker are connected to DR VTL but networker cannot read replicated tapes and displays the message for each tape "not in media database".
I need to clone VTL tapes to physical tapes with DR networker.
Of course I can scan each tape but it's too long and i have to do it all days.

I want to update an existing DR media database with only VTL tape (I need to keep physical tapes in the media database) but it's not possible with mmrecov.
mmrecov restore the media database from PR bootstrap but delete all existing media including physical jukebox media.
Of course DR jukebox cannot be move to primary site and DR jukebox can not be connect to PR networker.
For example Data protector can export each tape index in a file and import the file.
Networker are not able to do it...

any idea ?
Thank you.

In fact you can export/import the media DB using nsrmmdbasm -s/-r . But this is a backup/restore function. It does what it is - it will overwriting existing files files.
What you are looking for is a merge function.

I have never tested this but i am pretty sure that scanner is the only method to do this.

The smartest way to solve this problem is to change your DR Networker into a storagenode of your Primary Networker. Now the media DB knows all about your virtual and physical tapes in your DR site.
In case of emmergency you can Change the name and function of the DR-storagenode. Give it the Name of your networker server, install a full networker on it and make mmrecov.

Problems might be the additional VTL and Jukebox licenses. Ask EMC for a volume license it might be cheaper.

Good Luck

1- Are you using pool replication for Data Domain--> If yes, then networker is unaware of the replication
2- If you want to clone savesets to tape--> you can use networker controlled automatic or manual cloning
3- In a DR scenario you will have to change configuration of the DR data domain manually and then use import tapes option(only minimal data loss as the replication between data domains is async and changes are copied)
