While trying to do a system backup in smit i got the following error - 'up' kernal type is invalid.The command was : sysback -f/dev/rmt1 -x -T 6k -k up -M rootvg xxxvg xxxvg etc

Can anybody help regarding why the 'up' is invalid and a possible solution.

TIA

Jonah

up is invalid for SMP machines which requires mp kernel, so you can have both on replication master machine along with 64bit

up = uniprocessor
mp = multiprocessor

different kernels

64 - 64 bit mp (Aix 5.1)
64bit - 64bit fixup for 32bit system (4.3,5.1)

All,
Thanks that explains it.Help much appricated and thanks for getting back so soon.

Rgds,

Jonah
