up-/download files via ftp by client

I created a website for a friend of mine. You can see it at
He wants his clients to be able to go to a page, put in a password (that they have gotten from him by telephone), and then be able to upload and/or download files via ftp into a designated folder on his server.

I am fairly new to webdesign, and I am totally lost on how to do that.

Could anyone please help me?
