The frame should always have a VLAN ID. If no VLAN is configured, the VLAN ID will be 1.
The switch will simply look at the destination MAC and if it has an entry for it, it will forward it to the appropriate port. If it doesn't have a MAC entry, the frame will be forwarded to all ports except the one it arrived on.
Hi again, so if its not found, and it gets forwarded to all ports, does the switch use ARP in the process or not.
One of the exam questions had, either,
1. Gets forwarded to all ports except for one it arrived on.
2. Uses ARP and gets forwarded to all ports except for the one it arrvied on.
