Hello,

We currently are using Crystal Reports 8.5 with Oracle 9i backend. We have a mixture of CR reports, some using ODBC others Oracle native communication. This environment has existed for 4+ years without this problem until recently.

As of late, when I release a new report to production, when our users refresh the report, the “Select Data Source” screen pops up on the Machine Data Source tab, listing data sources CROR8V36, CRSS, CRXMLV36, dBase Files, Excel Files, etc…

The user must pick one of the “CR…” data sources for the report to run to completion.

The only way we’ve managed to keep this from happening every time they open the report, is to remove the RO property, make a small change to the report, undo the change, run the report, select the DSN, and lastly save the report.
Selecting the DSN and saving does not work. A change to the report is required!

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Much appreciated,

Q

What's the RO property, read only?

I assume that the difficulties are with ODBC (why woulod you ever use ODBC, it's slower...), and the problem is likely a difference in the ODBC driver setups.

If everyone has the same ODBC, then once you save the report it will work, I suspect that something has changed, perhaps a subtle difference in the name or some such.

Anyway, switch to native on all reports as you go along.

Yup, RO's read only. Thanks for the advice.

Q

Regarding the recommendation to switch to native as I run across the ODBC reports.

Will this be in the Database\Convert Database Driver...
location? We have a mixture of .dlls.

Some pdsodbc.dll(ODBC), others pdsora7.dll(Oracle 7x.)
Change all to pdsora7.dll(Oracle 7x.)?
