Hi,

I have W2K Advanced Server and a Dlink DI300M router. Since moving to W2K from NT4 the router seems to be constantly active.

I use DHCP to give the clients IP addresses. Something is triggering the router therefore this months phone bill was astronomical !!

Any information on how to solve this would be appreiciated.

Any chance it is caused by DNS ?
Is your local DNS server using forwarders ?
Are your clients using an external DNS server ? Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Every Chance it could be DNS - I don't know DNS that well or the thing to check.

The DNS Server is using forwarders that were set-up in the default installation.

I have turned all clients off, but the router still activates itself, usually every 10 mins, but that sometimes differs to.

I've deleted all the forwarders in DNS and disabled DNS Server and Client in the Services, but still getting a dial out every so often.

I can't be the only one to have this problem, surely.

Jason,

Did you get this fixed. I have exactly the same setup. My NT4 box is fine - the connection is droppped immediately, but the win2k stays up. I spoke with DLINK and they suggest setting up filtering rules on the router. Its a bit involved but you should read it. go to ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/pub/router/di300x/ and look at the netbios filter document.

Basically your clients are too "chatty", and certain communications between them and the router need to be blocked. Let me know how you get on.
