In my movie I make it so when you move your mouse over a button, in the over frame I make another picture pop out to tell you what button it is.

Well if you go over to where the button would be and you put the mouse over it, it acts as if the button has the mouse over it, and it pops out...

The effect that pops out is another .swf so i dont know if it is just acting as a button and i'm screwed, or if there is a way i can deactivate that part of the button?

Are you using a component button or one you have created as a button type symbol?

I have done what you are trying by using a button superimposed over several other movie clips. I just added a keyframe to the first frame of each pop-up mc and called that "stop". Then I put the information I wanted popped up in the following frame. Then I assigned action script to the button to tell the mc to goto and stop on the next frame where the pop-up graphics or text are located. In this case the button activity is unaffected by the mc popping up. You have to make sure that the MC is higher in the layers so that the pop-up is on top of instead of under your button. Go look at the technote # 12632 "creating advanced buttons" in the flash support area of macromedia's website. Specifically the section on "Roloover in one area of the movie affects another area of the movie".

Thanks for the post, i read through that information on the macromedia site, but I also found what my problem was. I didn't create a down frame on my button, which caused the pop up to act as a part of the button. I just created another keyframe on down and deleted the pop up button on that frame and it worked perfectly. Thankz a lot~!
