Hi All,

A co-worker is having problems when he opens VFP 9. This situation just started out of the blue one day... When he double clicks on the icon to open VFP, it appears like the program opens up, the icon for VFP is showing in the task bar, but not showing on the desktop. He has to then select VFP in the task bar to actually get it to show up on his desktop. He's using Windows 10 OS. Anyone seen this before? Do you know of a fix?

Thanks for your suggestions,

Sounds like maybe it's saving the state of usage of a previous instance as minimized. This may be saved in a local table (foxuser.dbf), or something custom like "startup.dbf". It's not native behaviour, but it may be something someone set up previously. Look for something like "minimized" with a value of .T. or "Start" column set to "minimized". Just guessing... with so little to go on.

My first thought would be to run taskmgr and see if the app was running.

If it is, I would ask if there is some way the screen could be outside the normal range - i.e. his last use was on a dual/triple screen setup and the image for VFP is 'off screen' away out of sight.

In the last line of config.fpw, you should have a line, something like Command=do yourpath\startup.prg. In this file, startup.prg, you add two lines:
[pre]_vfp.left=0
_vfp.top=0[/pre]

If you started VFP in a multi display environment, not on the main display, eg a notebook with further displays attached to its docking station, then close and later start VFP on the notebook without docking station, this can happen. Happend to me, too.

I used the task bar to minimize the VFP screen in the preview, then maximised again and it displays on the main display.

If all else fails you can also specify a startup PRG in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\9.0\Options\_STARTUP instead of specifying that prg in a config.fpw and in that PRG do as Tore Bleken suggests, set _VFP or _SCREEN Left and Top to 0.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks for your responses! Forwarded them onto my co-worker, let you know what he finds.
