Hello,
I have a user with a problem. When trying to print out a PDF Document she gets a printout with the above message on it.
She also gets a print out with information about the job attributes, but cannot print the PDF.
I have lookoed on the internet and found information about installing the host based drivers, but this hasn't worked and the host based drivers are included anyway aren't they?

The information out there basically seems to be a common problem with HP Laserjets 1010 (which my user has) and 1012 printers, due to the fact that they are host based printers which do not support PCL printing. The only other short work around this problem seems to be to just power cycle the printer until this message comes up again.

Can someone just confirm to me that this information is correct, so that I can go back to my user and explain that it's best to use another printer!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

As stated in an earlier post:

The HP LaserJet 1010 and 1012 series printers are host based and do not support PCL printing. If a PCL driver is used with either of these printers, an error page will print with the words Unsupported Personality: PCL in the upper left hand corner.

Solution :

Install the host based driver for these printers only.

If PDF document printng continue to fail using a host based driver, another printer that supports PCL or PS is recommended.

hpwizard,
I was looking at this because of another question. HP site has a 55mb printing system download for 1010 series. Does it include anything beyond the host based driver - like network support?

The networksupport of the LJ 1010 s allready there, which means that attaching fx. a JetDirect en3700 to the USB cable of the printer will allow any client to print. The host-based driver has to be installed on all clients. On the networked clients in the driver, just change the port setting to the IP of the JetDirect card.
