I have 1 job to backup our Exchange server. It recurs daily. Some days the store and the brick level will back up just fine. Other days the store will backup, but the bricks won't start. It's like it's stuck in between. The job will stay active, but it's not doing anything. The agent logs do not reveal anything. Security isn't the issue as it's the same job every day. Time isn't the issue, Friday's backup ran all weekend long. The day's that it gets stuck, it won't start the brick levels. I can stop the RPC service on Exchange and the backup job will stop and fail. However, the store session appears to be complete.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Debi

I am not sure what version of ARVserve you are running, but I would make sure that it is fully patched with what is available on the web page with the published patches. Is there any type of pattern as to the days that it fails?

Hi Debi,

Is your Exchange DB toooooooo large??

Looks like the Agent RPC is getting clogged for some reason.
Is arcserve installed on the Exchange server???
If so, setup a pre\post to recycle the Backup Agent RPC

If Exchange is remote, setup a batch file and point to it using the Scheduled Task . make it run 10 mins before the the backup kicks in.

hope this helps

cheers

I'm running Arcserve 2000 SP3. It has ran for months without a problem. This behavior has just started this month. I will go up to SP4 if you think it would help.

The Exchange server is a remote server. It has only the exchange agent loaded (not Arcserve Advanced).

What is TOO big for an Exchange database? Ours is 15.5 gig.

Thanks again,
Debi
