Hi All,

I am having a problem with CA arcserver 11.5. When i insert new media or even old media into the drive it shows up as
'unreognized media format'. I can erase or format the media and then use it as normal. When i remove the media
and reinsert it into the dirve it then shows up as 'unreognized media format' again.

The problem is that am not able to restore any of the backups.

I am running windows 2003 server, arcserve 11.5 sp3 (just installed March Device update). The backup device is a HP Ultrium 2-SCSI 400gb LTO 8 disk autoloader.

I have looked on previous forums i spotted a few pointers. One said stop the removable storage service in windows but that was already stopped.

Anyone any tips as I need to urgently backup 180gb of data from our server solution.

run a test backup with verify compare tape to disk.
If that errors out post the errors here.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.

This is really not good. Right now setup of a volume and copy an critical data to it.

Get a copy of the HP Tape Tools to run some tests on the drive. If it fails there also check with HP support.

For something like this you really should open an issue with CA, however here are some suggestions.

If the driver for the controller is SCSI Mini port as apposed to Storport then disable the tape drives and library from within the OS Device Manager. If they are disabled and Storport is used then they will be unavailable to ARCserve.

Check Control Panel for HP Management Agents and if there open and make sure SCSI Information is listed on the Right so it will not be collected.
