Unrecognized database format utility?

Our Access 2000-based database was working fine yesterday, this morning PC's which had it open were fine, but no new PC's could open it. I closed the file and tried to run compact & repair, but error Unrecognized Database Format before it tried to do anything. Downloaded Jetcomp.exe from Microsoft, but it has the same problem and doesn't even generate an error table. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced utility that would help recover this? or any other suggestions...

Are they running win2k+? if not, do they have MDAC 2.5 installed?

You might need to install Visual Studio Service Pack 4 or above. You should also check the your references to make sure you are using DAO 3.6 not 3.51 or under.
