Hi people,

Here's my problem:

I'm using W2K server with ArcServe 2000. My backups are working fine and I can do a restore without any problems. But the fact is that I can't use a new Tape. If I put a new Tape I got "Unreadable Media" status and 2 erros message in the activity log :

- E6914 The tape is damaged or the drive is faulty

- E6096 Media error [ABSL: 2060 CMD: 8h TapeName: RID: 0 Barcode: ]

I'd disable the tape device in the device manager like I'd read before but no success...

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Firstly, not to overlook the obvious, the new media IS compatible with your backup device?

Secondly, if your running a GFS job, you have imported the media into your scratch set before using it for that pool?

Also, are you able to run any utilities such as a format or erase on the media?

If still no joy try the following -
Stop the tape engine and delete this registry key :
HKLM / SOFTWARE / COMPUTERASSOCIATES / ARCSERVEIT / BASE / TAPEENGINE
Restart the tape engine and the key will be recreated again. If your using a library, re-run the device config wizard.

If the problem still persists, put the tape engine into debug mode - run the server admin utility, click on the tape engine tab, then configuration button, set the options to detail and file only. Cycle the tape engine service. Re-try the backup and drop me a line when it fails!
