We are having a problem with one of our installs (Solaris 10, CDE).

When the user logs in, the sound is muted by default. As our main application uses the sound for alerts and whatnot, it needs to be unmuted by default.

Does anyone know of any way to do this? We have looked and looked and have never found anything that can be done from the command line/script. The answer is always "just click the icon when you log in to un-mute the sound", which is not sufficient.

We are looking for a simple command line command that will let us turn the audio on/off, or if there are any flags/lock files that can be deleted/created. Anyone have any clue on how to do this?

thanks ahead of time

Have you tried "xset" as in >
xset b on

which should set the beep sound back on...

Was that the sound you were talking about?
