Unmountable_Boot_Volume Blue Screen Error

Got a client with xp pro running on his laptop. Since about 3 weeks ago every couple of days on boot-up the following blue screen stop message appears:

Unmountable_Boot_Volume

stop: 0x000000ed(0x82f9de30,0xc000009c,0x00000000,0x00000000)


If he switches off and on Windows boots as normal. It's just getting to be annoying now!

No new hardware or software has been installed at all over the past 6 months.

any way of finding the cause??

Also, do a forum search on this. There have been several lengthy threads describing cause and workarounds. But the threads above describe the most common sources of the problem, and the use of chkdsk in Recovery Console.
