please tell me what is to be done to rid off "bosboot -a" error after unmirroring hd5.

# bosboot -a
0301-168 bosboot: The current boot logical volume, /dev/hd5,
does not exist on /dev/hdisk1.

As far as I remember, the error is gone when I recreate /dev/ipldevice major/minor number (to be the same as the only disk in rootvg having hd5 after unmirroring) and then reboot the system.

Anyone knows a solution so the reboot is not needed and 'bosboot -a' works after unmirroring hd5??

thx in advance for any tip!

Not sure if this is what you need, but when I unmirror rootvg I make 'chpv -c' on the disk where there is no more hd5, and 'bosboot -ad' on the disk where hd5 remains.

I think it looks at your bootlist. What does 'bootlist -om normal' say?

I think, that the 'bosboot -a' is trying to make boot image on the last booted disk (the one on 'bootinfo -b' output).

I think I can wait with the reboot, because I did:

rm /dev/ipldevice
ln /dev/rhdisk2 /dev/ipldevice (hd5 is now on hdisk2 only)
bosboot -ad /dev/ipldevice (completed without errors)

and on site there is written:

"The installp command calls the bosboot command with /dev/ipldevice. If this error does occur, it is probably because /dev/ipldevice does not exist. /dev/ipldevice is a link to the boot disk. "

The first time I didn't undestand the problem.

As I can see when you issue bosboot -a it checks against hdisk1, and I suppose it should only check hdisk0, since it's no longer mirrored.

The usual steps are:
unmirror
bosboot -ad /dev/hdiskX (in your case I think hdisk0)
bootlist -m normal hdisk0

After this your ipldevice should be hdisk0, and now bosboot -a should work.
