Unlocking locked records

I have an Access 97 database that had to be shut down incorrectly (i.e., not all users closing the front end application properly) because of server problems. As a result, some of the records have user locks. No workgroup security was placed on the database. How can the records be easily unlocked so that a new, clean version of the database can be created?

BSman:

Have you done a compact/repair?

This will frequently clear locks.

The locked records prevent you from compacting the database (or repairing it). Those were the first things I tried. I also tried creating a new database and importing all of the tables...still no luck. Choked on the locked records.

BSman:

Check to see if the .ldb file was not closed. If it is still there you should be able to delete it.

Yes, I did that when I could with no luck. Alternately, I tried copying the mdb file elsewhere and working on the copy and still didn't work.

BSman:

I'm out of ideas. When I've encountered this problem, killing the left over .ldb and/or running a compact/repair would fix it.

Sorry, wish I could have been of more assistance.

If your DB has a back end that is on another computer, there could be a ldb on the other computer for the back end. If so try deleting that one.
