Ok, this is getting real fraustrating. They were not kidding when they said there is a learning curve with Linux. I do like the OS, but I am having problems. I downloaded the flash installer for Mozilla (yes, it is a Linux installer). I extracted like it said. Then I went to the directory and found the flashplayer-installer file. I ran the command line. Nothing happers.

ie. /home/dad/Desktop//install_flash_player_6_linux/
./flashplayer-installer

If I run just ./flashplayer-installer, I get unknown host

What am I doing wrong. I can only add flash to my web browser using a script according to Macromedia. Thank you.

I downloaded flashplayer so I can try to duplicate your problem. But needless to say, it worked perfectly the first time and the install went great. I think this is why I'm so dumb. I never make mistakes so I can never learn from them. :) The error you are getting would mean the the script can't find the host it is looking for. I thought it may be trying to go online then download needed files but couldn't find the host which made me think that the url wasn't resolving. When I ran the test install I was prompted 3 times for different things but nothing had to do with it going online. Now I'm thinking that it's trying to tell you that it doesn't know what its own name is. Go to the command line and type hostname. If you don't see anything or it just says localhost, this is a good time to give it a cool name. For example, if you wanted to name it Server, you would type hostname Server on the command line. You can also use a text editor and edit /etc/hosts. You should have at least one line aready there:

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain

You should add a second line that will assign a hostname to your eth0 device:

192.168.0.10 Server

Of course you would use your machines ip address and whatever name you picked. Another thing I noticed is that you are doing this install while logged in as a regular user (dad). This may be fine if the installer only modifies the current users files. If you want this plugin to apply to your whole system, then you need to switch to super user mode or login as root because you would not have permission otherwise to write to other files and directories outside your /home directory.
