unknown file type

hallo, I got some works from a designer but I cannot opern the files: they don't have any extension.... If I open the files with textpad I can read (as first thing) this: MMXPR3 C CXP.

It must be a design prg (illustrator or similar) but I don't know which one. Is there a way to find out? Thanks

It appears that the guy is using Mac OS9 or earlier, where extensions were not automatically added, and you're on a pc.

Your best bet is to contact the designer and ask him to either save with the correct extension or, at the least, tell you what app was used so you can manually enter the extension.
