Unknown file format on DVD ROm

Is your PC DVD reader compatible with the medium ? If your DVD unit is +R, then it might have issues if the disk is a -R (and vice-versa).
I have a DVD writer at home that came with a free DVD-RAM disk. Turns out that such a format cannot be read by any +RW/-RW unit that I have tried it on. But it can be read in my living room DVD player without any problem.
