Am currently running SCO Openserver 5.?
Hardware, very simple P1, local text base office software. How do I find out exactly what version of the OS I am runnning (equivalent of the MS ver command)?

Will the OpenServer 5 handle migration to newer hardware such as the Athlon, or P3, P4 systems or will I need to buy a lot of upgades?

If I am running 5.0.0 and can purchase the 5.0.6 as an upgade package, will that do or do I have to track down all of the sequential upgrades (eg 5.0.1 then 5.0.2, etc)?

For P4 or Xeon systems you need at least 5.0.6A and preferably 5.0.7.
For better new hardware handling: 6.0.0A

I support everything PHV says, but might add that if you are truly running 5.0.0, I wouldn't take on an "upgrade" to 5.0.7. If you have to pay for the licenses anyway, you'll want to go to 6.0.0, and that version doesn't support an "upgrade" process. You have to install from scratch and re-install your applications.

You can determine your exact revision with this command:

# uname -X

Before you make a final decision, make sure the application is supported in whatever revision you choose!

Ok, ran the uname (thank you) and I get SCOSYSV (system five) then 3.2 5.0.5

I enterpret this to be release 5.0.5 am I correct?

Yes.
You may use custom to see if any patch was applied.

I'm moving several P1 systems to P3 but maintaining 5.0.5 with the required patches. Everything seems to be stable.
Also eliminating QIC backup in favor of CD burners.

Everything said earlier is correct.What kind of office software are you running?. Earlier there was an update offer from SCO to 5.07 from earlier version with a free update offer to OpenServer 6.0. I am not sure if it is still valid. If you are to update to newer hardware with
faster frontside bus and support for DDR-2 DRAMS then you may want to update to 6.0.
