Sorry for posting such a lame question here but I'm neither an Oracle nor UNIX expert
I'm currently running a project that requires Oracle 10.2.0.2 to be installed on a Solaris 9 box but have been given conflicting information about the software prerequisites. We need a bog standard installation of Oracle to be installed but it's been suggested that we need to buy Sun ONE Studio 8 so that we can physically install 10g.
Looking at section 2.3 of the document below I think that we only need this (& the associated patches) if we want to utilise PL/SQL native compilation or the Oracle XML Developer's Kit.
The application that will use Oracle has no special requirements - it just uses the database component. Am I right in my thinking that elements such as the Messaging Gateway, PL/SQL native compilation, etc are optional additional components & therefore not required in a standard base install?
Thanks
Steve
