I have printers on Windows 2000 workstations and would like to print from my AIX 4.5 server. Can this be done and if so how.

hi,

WINDOWS SIDE
------------

1) Install on 2k the part of "Print Services for Unix"
( Control Panel / Add remove Programs / A.R. Win. Comp /
Other Netw. File and Print Services, Detail
Print Services for Unix. )
(that we call LPD in AIX env)

2) In services put the related services autom. started

3) share the printer with a short name (Unix like no Win)
( max 8 char with no space or other diabolic ones)

AIX SIDE
--------

A) smitty spooler \ add queue \ remote

Remote queue : the name you have chosen in NT share
Local q. : choice a name
Host : the name of W2000 server
(put in your /etc/hosts)

If you choice "local filtering", you can choose the
type of printer at AIX, to select ascii,ps and tray.

Warning: is difficult obtain all you can choose in NT !
If it prints, its enough!

bye
