Hi,
Can anyone help me to know the PID char length.
Like - 89066 = 5 char length.

I would like to know a good reason on why the PID can't be more than 5 char in length ?

thanks
dave

Can you kindly explain how can the PID be of such a length and what is the deciding factor on the length ?

It depends on which Operating System (and version). Our AlphaServers running Tru64 v5.1a can have 6 digit PIDs, whereas Tru64 v4.0F has a maximum 5 digit PIDs.

I hope that helps.

Interesting. My example is from an AIX 5.2 box.
