We have a application developer using Win 2000 Platform which will migrate to the Unix Iplanet Server and Oracle Database. Is it better to develop the application in the target environment - even to the extent to where you are developing the application in the same environment at the same version/service pack. Or is there not a problem as long as its written in Java?

I'm not a Java developer - but I work in a company full of them.

I'm always hearing gripes about the subtle differences between different Vendors versions of Java. I would suggest that, where possible, you develop on a duplicate of the target environment - esp with regard to service packs and patches. Mike
