We are currently in the throws of converting to Ellipse and facing the decision as to whether we use Ellipse advanced security or Unix Host security. We have used host security in the past, but have found that there may be difficulties with passwords while using the MUI client. The problems being notification of expiry and ability to reset them. We are going to run ellipse on an IBM AIX 5.2 Unix system with CICS(TX Series) as the TP. The MUI clients are installed and being distributed on a Citrix terminal server farm.
I would be interested in hearing what people are using and why decisions to go that way were made.

Paul.

Have you considered using LDAP for security?
With LDAP you can tell Ellipse (or MIMS) to authenticate using your Windows domain usernames/passwords.
Your Ellipse usernames must be the same as your Windows logins.

For LDAP to work, you need:

* Windows 2000/2003 as your Windows Domain Controller - Active Directory needs to be installed/enabled.

* ECP 3.2.x+ (CICS/Ellipse TP), or ETP 5.6.x+ (Tuxedo/Ellipse TP), or MincomTP 3.008-12R.

Mimsaholic, thanks for your idea. It has plenty of merit. We have an issue where we have a manual workforce who use mims, but do not have windows userids. They tend to share a workstation with the workgroups admin staff. Utilising LDAP security in these cases would cause too many dramas with users using other users ID's for their work as they would not go through the process of logging off a windows session. This is why we prefer host (Unix) authentication.
