Good morning,

We are adding an AIX box running a proprietary application to the business. Right now it is only accessible at its current physical location. What issues are involved to hang this box on the ethernet LAN so that others can access the program from their PC's?

I see no reference to a UNIX "client" so am not quite sure how to proceed?

Thanks for any help,

JGiles

Well, it would depend on the application running on your AIX box, but a simple configuration would be just TCP/IP.

You could then use telnet sessions or Rumba/Client Access to access the AIX server, but as I say it depends on what application you have running. "It's true, its damn true!"

Check with the vendor of the app on the Unix box to see what terminal software they recommend, and the settings to go with it. You'll be using IP as the protocol, and a very specific terminal emulation configuration. I've had several setups such as yours, and in each case, one and ONLY one configuration of a particular terminal software application, specificied by the application vendor would do the job. Find out what it is, and stick with it.

Thanks to both respondees! I'll take all this into consideration and speak with the vendor. Right now the Novell server is using IPX protocol but I'm sure we can implement IP - it would be useful for other issues.

We already use Client Access for PC/AS400 connections so that is a possibility.

Thank you again,
