Just installed a Belkin universal repeater in the house so other pc's can connect wirelessly, i've tested the connection on my laptop and i now get 2 networks, i get the name of the network we made and now also netgear which is the brand or router we're using, the netgear is an unsecured network and the named network is secured,i turnd off the belkin repeater and the netgear network no longer on the list of networks i'm able to pick up. secondly when i view the networks, there both excellent signals but when i connect to the named i get a poor connection and the netgear i'll get limited connection, is that due to my laptop/hardware issue?

something i've thought of, i've setup the belkin repeater to pickup our network, we're in the countryside and not alot of residents around us so doubt it's someone elses network we're getting, also why is the netgear network unsecured? i'm not entering the passphrase from our secured network when connecting, is there something i missed when configuring the repeater?

I have not done a Belkin before,, but the repeaters I have setup before, I needed to connect the repeater directly to a laptop and make the configurations,, (SSID, password, etc) once done, then I could disconnect the cable, and it picked up the my private network,,,

see if there is a place to plug in a cable,, if so, see if you can access a web interface through it...
you might have to reference the manual to get correct default settings (ip address, admin password, etc)

yesterday i manualy configured the repeater, i had to phone for support though and i was told i need to enter the router code (64wep / 128wep) and the encription key, i thought that having the passphrase would automaticaly give me the encription key?

I think that that they are referring to the passphrase when stating the encryption key...
also, I know the one I setup would only support WEP..
you should be able to tell the repeater your SSID, type of encryption,, (64 or 128 bit WEP) and then the passphrase (or encryption key)

That's what i thought, when setting up my home network i just entered the passphrase and type of wep all was well, seems when i try on this belkin it still flashes a red light indicating it's searching for a network although it's next to my laptop and that's wirelessly connected to the network.

Finaly configured this repeater. had to download a program from belkin to find out what the router was broadcasting and started from there.
