universal Distribution group not replicating

Hi all.
I have a mixed mode 5.5 sp4 and ex2k sp3 organization. I have a very important mailing list which refuses to replicate to active directory. Originally when I ran the exchange install, this list was associated with an account which no longer existed.
If i delete the list in 5.5, force replication, and then try to create the list in AD - I get a cannot create object because it all ready exists.
Any ideas?
