Hello All,

What exactly do Univ Trunk cards do?

Also I have 3 option 11's. 2 are very old pre-succession rls 25. 1 is succession rls 4.

We are consolidating offices into 1 big site. 500 people.
I plan to use the rls 4 one as the main cabinet. Are there any compatiblity issues with using older DLC cards etc and the older cabinets and putting them in as expansion cabinets? ie integrating old and new into 1 switch?

thanks

Analog trunks,,,,,Loop Start (not recommended) Ground start, Paging, Music, Rans are a few I can think of.

You can use them as Expn Cabs, but you need to buy the fiber EXP Cards and fiber to connect them. the card are compatible.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

500 people on one Opt 11 is pushing the envelope. If you have the funds, you might want to consider an Opt 61C/81C size system. That is a lot of people to run off only one processor, and don't forget additional PRI's, fax machines, conference phones, modems etc. You might be able to get a deal on trading in your Opt 11's too as well as get all the latest software/hardware on the new system.

You could go CPPM HA and reuse teh existing hardware.

hmm thanks for pointing out the limit.
at 500 i think i will need 4 or 5 pri's, which is pushing it.
im having to do this as due diligence in whether to buy a new system or to re-use as much existing equipment in order to save money.

thanks

I would get a quote to upgrade from 4.0 to 5.x and reuse the equipment you have. At the most you may have to upgrade a few cards but it will be cheaper than a new system. Besides it can be installed as a new system and they will not have to worry about saving the data. You would then be using the latest hardware for the backbone. Most of the cost would be in new sets and new line cards and you have good ones already.

And if your worried about running on one processor, you can scrap the fiber and turn the cabinets into IP expansion cabinets and you'll have survivability.

But since your trying to save some money the cost of going IP vs fiber may be out of the question.
