I've got Call Manager 9.1 and Unity 10. Got an interesting one....

I work for a bank, and we're shutting down 6 branches. Nearly all of our branches are connected internally by an MPLS network, with phone delivered to each location either by legacy PRI's or POTS lines. For the branch shutdowns, project managers want to forward only the main number and fax number to the nearest branch. On the closing branch’s main number, they want an up-front “closing message” that plays prior to the call reaching the nearest host branch.

It’s easy enough in concept, but I’m getting stuck on the best way to achieve the objective:

Since the closed branch would forward to the host branch, I was thinking I’d modify the host branch’s voicemail message with a “branch closed” message, then forward the call to the main number of the host branch. I see one glitch, though – this message would play for all callers, not just callers of the closed branch.

The only way around that glitch (as I see it), is to
a) Create one DID and mailbox at our HQ (where Unity is) for each closing branch, then record their particular closing message.
b) Forward the closing branch’s main number to that HQ mailbox. Once the message plays here, it would automatically forward the call internally to the host branch.

So here’s my questions:
1) I’d like to avoid the work-around. Can the host branch’s voicemail / call handler be configured to play an intercept message only if the call came from the closed branch’s main number? (some type of inbound filter).

2) Am I over-thinking the problem? Is there a better way of doing this?

You will need to port the main number to the PRI of the branch that's not closing, then route the DID to the message you want to play.
If a pots line, change it to a DID with your provider and port to the branch that is not closing.
Simply forwarding it to the main number of another branch will make it ring to the main number branch, then follow the routing you have configured.
