Unique serial number

I know that for an item the serial/lot number is unique, but you can repeat the same serial number for different items. Is there a way or tool that can't prevent us from doing that? We use only serial numbers for our finished products, and we use a unique serial for the different models we use.

No serial number is repeated ever, but when they are typing those serial numbers sometimes they, "by mistake", repeat those numbers.

you'd have to do a vb thing or put a trigger on the table to warn user via email that they've made a duplicate.

Do you know the table that stores SN's?

I don't have GP open but I remember creating a report...its IV00200. I'll confirm this once I'm in the office.

yep IV00200 is serial master
IV00300 is the lot master
