Internet explorer has started loading "something" each time I boot my computer. The short cut is not in my startup folder. Also ads for Microsoft pop up from time to time, even when I am not using the browser.

Can I turn both these things off!!!!! Please help!!!!

You need to determine which program is causing it

In Win98/ME, go to Start>Run, type msconfig, click the startup tab and check here.

In Win95, you might be interested in this 3rd party clone for the msconfig tool in Win95.

It's called Startup Cop. It's freeware. Here's a link:

Go to Start>Run, type sysedit. Look over the autoexec.bat for unneccessary lines, click the win.ini and check for programs loading here:
[windows]
load=
run=

Then go to upgrade Internet Explorer, then go back and download all Critical Updates.
