Uninstalling Vista Upgrade

Has anyone encountered a way to uninstall the Vista upgrade? My boss bought a new computer about 4-5 months ago and it came with the Vista upgrade. He now wants to uninstall it, because of problems.

Anyone have a process that cleanly removes Vista?

Is there a previous operating system, such as XP, that was upgraded to Vista, it is not too clear from your post?
