Hi,

We are running Veritas Backup Exec 9.0. we were having some problems with it so we are trying to uninstall the software, so that we can re-install it again.

upto now we are unable to uninstall the software, even if the server is booted in Safe Mode it still will not uninstall.

we have the software running on a Dell Power Edge 4600.

When trying to uninstall from Add/Remove program files, it just sits and hangs saying "preparing to uninstall".

then crashes when trying to cancel uninstallation.

When trying to uninstall from the CD, on the loading bar it moves along 2 bars then Hangs and will not do anything.

Anyone have any ideas to why this may be happening and how we can remove the software succesfully.

Thankyou

Try installing Windows INstall 3.1 see if it resolved issue with windows installer

Ummm; Are you by chance running APC software on the server for the UPS? This is a known bug caused by the JAVA certificate expiring on 7/27/05. If so, boot into safe mode and diasable the two APC services, remove the APC software from startup and reboot. A new APC app is available for free on their website.

Hi there thankyou for your replies. it was actually APC software that was causing the issue. its all fixed and up and running again now.

Cheers

JamieCCL;

Glad to be of help. That APC problem cost me a lost weekend back in August. There were a lot of people popping up with the same problem on boards like this one and together we managed to figure it out.

Use beutility to stop all the services and then disable them so they will not start opon reboot. Reboot and try to remove through add/remove.

What are the issues you are experiencing that you think a reinstall will fix?
