I was trying to remove Norton on my computer, Vista Operating Version, because I was prompted by the Norton 360 I just purchased.

I did remove Norton and Norton Live, restarted my computer and then could not access the internet.

Also, in my attempt to install Norton 360, I still receive a command to remove remaining Norton files? Not sure where these "files" are located?

Any idea of how to get Vista reconnected to the internet?

Thanks,

Dean

Use the Norton Removal Tool to clean up any remnants of the old Norton installation. This should allow you to install the new copy of Norton 360 as well.

- Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

If Internet connectivity is not returned after running the cleanup tool and restarting the computer, try the Winsock fix. Open a command prompt (Start >Run >type cmd) and enter the following command:

netsh winsock reset

Restart your computer after entering the command and see if Internet connectivity is returned.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up speaking with a level 2 operative at Microsoft. We tried various removal tools for Norton to no avail.

I ended up having to go back to the factory settings of my HP computer, which did fix the problem.

I know now that when removing Norton, use their removal tool. What a pain. It took me from 5 1/2 hours to fix this problem. I did learn a lot however.

Thanks again for your reply.
