If I were planning to upgrade AIX from 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2

Would I need to uninstall DB2 (installp package)? OR can i just perform the migration install?

(Some people insist that I unstall Db2, upgrade AIX, reinstall Db2, but I don't have the db2 media handy)
TIA!

if the verion you have of db2 will work with 5.2. Just shutdown db2, make sure you have backups, then upgrade to 5.2 I have done over 50 upgrades that way never had a problem

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Have you done an lppchk -v (I am sure you did) did you have any problems?

yes did a lppchk -v no problems did a instfix -i|grep ML found a few msg filesets that did not update.

okay, I know this is bad but:

Before the upgrade:
lppchk -v
shows problems

and you do not fix them

You update the ML on the box...

how hard is it to fix the lppchk -v problems, after you performed the ML upgrade?

You said you were going from 4.3 to 5.2 That is not a ML upgrade but an O/S migration. I just like a clean system to upgrade

plamb:

Yes. I don't think I have 5.x media avaliable, but was considering downloading the AIX ML 11 for 4.3.3

for a full ML11 system you will need tofix all broken file sets. even so aix 4.3.3.ML has not been support for almost 2 years
