I have installed latest apache through source code and Apache through rpm is already running on the server. I stopped the service of apache that is installed through rpm and start the service that is installed through source code

#/usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl start

but it actually starts the service and loaded apache that is installed through rpm.

I also tried to uninstall apache rpm but it gives me error

rpm -e httpd-2.2.0-5.1.2
error: Failed dependencies:
httpd >= 2.2.0 is needed by (installed) gnome-user-share-0.9-3.i386

I want to run apache through source code installation. Please help me in this regard

Was a new version of apachectl also created when you compiled the new httpd? The reason I ask is that apachectl calls the start script which is in /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd. If there is no apachectl in /usr/local/apache2/bin/, then it will use the one in /usr/sbin which is in your path. You can edit the start script to call yours by changing the path to httpd and its default config file.

I need to correct something before everybody jumps on me. Apachectl is the command line start script. It also needs to be edited to point to the correct httpd executable. The start script in /etc/rc.d/init.d is read on bootup. Let this be a lesson. Never open your mouth before your second cup of coffee.
