I uninstalled the hp software and drivers for the 2840 from my Dell notebook PC running WinXP-Pro OS. Now, while trying to reinstall the software and drivers from the ORIGINAL CD that came with the printer, I am getting this error message:

"Another installation already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install."

Does HP have a clean up utility that will clean up the registry of any and all data in the registry pertaining to the old installation of the 2840 so that i CAN install the software?

I NEED your HELP ASAP.
Thank you.

On the Windows software CD that came with your printer you will find a folder called something like /util/CCC/.
In that folder copy the two files scrubber.exe and scrubber.ini to a place on your harddrive and then run the scrubber.exe utility.
This utility should clear most registry settings added by the software to your system.
If you are going to reinstall the software, make sure not to run the Toolbox along with Internet Explorer 7 as it will probably fail (MS bug !)
Also do not try to install the software if you are planning to use it with Windows Vista as the software CD and printer features are not supported yet.
HP and MS are working towards a solution to that but unfortunately no date is set for a release of that software.
