unified messaging with exchange server 2003 1

I have a customer with a Merlin Messaging R3.0 currently running on Exchange 5.5. They are upgrading the server to Exchange 2003 and I wanted to make sure Unified Messaging r3.0 could handle it. Has anyone done this or know if it will work? Thanks in advance.

Unified messaging does not work with server 2003. Got this directly from Avaya. The are still working on it.

it would work as a Generic SMTP server and not as an exchange server. In this senario the voice mail and email box would not automatically sync but the users would still recieve their voice mails in their email box

I too am having trouble getting Unified Messaging to work with Exchange 2003. When I try to turn on "Unify with Mail" in the administration client - it advises that a data area is not set up correctly in the application. I have checked all of my setup and securities multiple times Help!

are you putting in the users exhcnage alias whihc can somteimes be different than the username? I get this problem with E2k every so often and I have found this to be the problem
