Is there a way to display UNICODE characters on a web page ??
I would like to display hex. number 2714 .... I have tried the standard &2714; type syntax, to no avail ..

AFAIK there is no checkmark in html entities. You will have to look for a graphical solution. Consult this list for available entities:
